In your initial evaluation, Dr. Kevin will gather a detailed health history, go over your individual concerns, and perform a traditional Chinese medical evaluation which will include examining your tongue and checking your pulse in various locations to help determine your particular point prescription. Additionally, part of your evaluation will be ensuring that you are a good candidate for a facial revitalization treatment plan.
After your initial evaluation, your treatments will consist of insertion of 20-50 very small needles into specific acupuncture points. The majority of the points will be on the face, but there are also several in the arms and legs. In most cases, results can be seen within the first 10 treatments (sometimes as early as the first treatment) and full effects are seen after 24 treatments.
Typically facial acupuncture is painless because the needles are extremely small, but a mild pinching sensation may be felt upon insertion of the needle(s). Some people experience a mild ache after initial needle insertion for up to one minute, but that aching subsides within 60 seconds. Because the needles are so fine, the skin closes immediately after removal of the needle, so a small amount of bleeding is relatively uncommon (though it is possible).
